BTU SFL 2018-2019 Academic Year Student Orientation Program
In the first week of 2018-2019 academic year, a series of orientation activities were organized at School of Foreign Languages (SFL) in order to help our new prep-class students adapt more easily to these new conditions in their lives.
On the first day, the students were given a detailed presentation about the vision and mission of SFL, its services and facilities, the foreign language education system, and the assessment policy. After the presentation, the assistant directors answered the individual questions of the students on various issues.
A number of orientation activities were held throughout the week with the participation of our academic staff. “Find Someone Who” activity provided students with the opportunity to talk to the academic staff in English and enabled them to get to know their teachers better.
In the activity of “Posters of English Speaking Countries”, students conducted research on the English speaking countries all around the world and made coloured posters about those countries. As well as enhancing the students’ world knowledge, this activity offered them an opportunity to demonstrate their artistic skills.
“Around the School Scavenger Hunt” event, which requires a good team work, both entertained the students and enabled them to be familiar with the every corner of the SFL, the services provided by the different units on the campus, and the academic and administrative staff.
The aim of “Family Tree” activity held in the green field of our campus was to make our students work in teams and complete the missing parts of the family tree by tracking the clues given in English.
Finally, “Tic Tac Toe” tournament started with qualifying rounds within the classes themselves and ended with a final round among the classes. This physical activity requiring a team work both entertained our students and help them get their stress away. Our students took part in all the orientation activities with great enthusiasm, and they gave positive feedback about the activities organized within the framework of the program.
We would like to express our thanks to all our academic and administrative staff for the implementation of the orientation program, especially to Inst. Miranda KARJAGDIU ÇOLAK who contributed a lot to the planning and organisation of this fruitful event.
