Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

INTRODUCTION

BTU SFL is committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and accessible learning environment for all students and faculty members. As a public institution, we embrace diversity, and our policies are designed to foster an atmosphere where everyone can thrive, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, disability, nationality, immigration status, or other individual characteristics. This policy outlines the principles and practices that BTU and the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) follow to ensure inclusivity across all aspects of university life.

DIVERSITY

1. Non-Discrimination in Admissions and Enrollment

BTU adheres to all applicable regulations regarding student admissions, ensuring that no individual is discriminated against on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic. All applicants who pass the university entrance examination are eligible to enroll in the SFL, regardless of their demographic background.

2. Gender Identity and Expression

The university, including the SFL, fosters an environment where individuals can freely express their gender identity and expression. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to be themselves and are supported in their personal expressions of gender. All gender identities are respected, and we maintain an inclusive atmosphere for people of all gender expressions.

3. Accessibility and Support for Students with Disabilities

BTU is committed to providing a physically and academically accessible environment. The SFL building is equipped with facilities designed to accommodate students with disabilities, such as elevators with auditory notifications for those with visual impairments. For students with hearing impairments, accommodations for exams (such as the use of headphones or exemptions from listening sections) are provided. Additionally, students with visual impairments are offered exams in larger font sizes to ensure equitable access to academic content.

4. Religious Freedom and Practices

Both faculty and students at BTU are free to express and practice their religious beliefs and spiritual practices. A mosque is available on campus for Muslim students to observe their prayer times, and staff members of various faith backgrounds are encouraged to observe their religious holidays as needed. BTU respects the religious diversity of its community and strives to accommodate the needs of all members.

5. International and Multicultural Environment

BTU’s diverse student body and faculty members come from a variety of countries, cultures, and backgrounds. The SFL welcomes students from all international backgrounds, regardless of nationality or immigration status. The university values this cultural diversity and aims to provide an inclusive atmosphere that respects and celebrates all cultures.

6. Respect for Intellectual and Learning Differences

BTU values the unique needs of students with intellectual and learning differences. We provide a variety of teaching materials, strategies, and support mechanisms to create an inclusive learning environment for all students. Our faculty members are trained to adapt their teaching methods to meet students' diverse learning styles and requirements, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

EQUALITY

BTU School of Foreign Languages (SFL) strongly emphasizes ensuring equity for all students. We are dedicated to providing equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their financial or personal circumstances. To support this commitment, we take proactive measures across various aspects of university life:

  • Access to Course Materials: BTU SFL provides course materials free of charge to students who face financial difficulties, ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed academically.
  • Computer Access: The university offers a fully equipped computer lab, giving students access to the technology necessary to complete assignments and projects requiring computer usage.
  • Subsidized Meals: As part of our broader university policies, BTU offers subsidized meals to students at significantly reduced prices. This initiative aims to ensure that all students have access to affordable, nutritious food throughout their academic journey.
  • Financial Support: In addition to subsidized meals, some students receive financial assistance through government or private scholarships, providing further support to those in need.
  • Accommodation of Special Requirements: At BTU SFL, all students are treated equally. We make necessary adjustments promptly to accommodate any special requirements, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to succeed in their academic pursuits.

INCLUSION

BTU School of Foreign Languages (SFL) is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all individuals—students, faculty, and staff—feel respected, supported, and empowered. We believe in fostering an atmosphere that encourages full participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities.

  • Engagement with Diverse Perspectives: The university actively promotes meaningful engagement with diverse perspectives across all facets of campus life. This includes teaching, learning, research, and community-focused activities, ensuring that every individual’s voice is heard and valued.
  • Student Representation: Each quarter, a student representative is elected from every class to serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration. These representatives participate in regular meetings with the administration to discuss any issues or concerns, offer feedback, and suggest improvements. This ensures that the university continuously adapts and maintains an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
