On March 25, 2025, Bursa Technical University (BTU) hosted BUTECHMUN Training, a Model United Nations (MUN) training session, attended by 18 students—ten from the English Preparatory Program and eight from various undergraduate programs. The event, held in English, began with an opening speech by BUTECHMUN Society Director Ayşenur Buse KARAMAN. This was followed by Society Advisor Ayşe VATANSEVER, also an instructor at the BTU School of Foreign Languages, who provided an overview of the United Nations, the structure and function of MUN committees, rules of procedure, the importance of formal debate, MUN conference workflow, and past MUN activities at BTU.
The training also featured an MUN simulation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), chaired by Aziz Mahmut TOPALALİ and Şevval Naz AYAN, with Yaren Elif KARA as the rapporteur. During the simulation, students participated in moderated and unmoderated caucuses to discuss sustainable everyday actions to reduce carbon footprints. They collaborated on a resolution focusing on financial aid for developing nations, the promotion of public transport, and integrating environmental education into school curricula.
The training session provided numerous benefits, including improving public speaking, critical thinking, and collaboration skills, enhancing English language practice, and offering opportunities to expand social networks, all of which are essential for future leaders. It marked a fruitful beginning to further MUN activities, fostering a deeper understanding of global issues such as sustainability and the importance of diplomatic engagement.
At the end of the training, students were awarded digital certificates of participation, in line with the discussed topic of sustainability.
